10 Things Guest Really Care About

10 Things Wedding Guests Really Care About

While guests will be most delighted to be invited to a wedding in North Cyprus there are some etiquettes they will appreciate.

1: Timings and Direction:

When having a wedding abroad this is really vital as some guests may have never been to cyprus.

Make sure your invites and website is very clear with times, maps and directions. Info for transport and if you are arranging transportation the correct times and meeting points.

2: Menu options

When sending out your invites include the menus and a section where guests can include if they have any allergies, intolerances and if they are a vegetarian. It is also vital for the wedding planner to have this info and which table they will be seated at so that the waiters can be informed.

3: Running order

It always nice for the guests to know the order of the day and what will be up next. These can be included in your website, invites, or small cards given to the guests at the ceremony. Some couples are now opting for a wooden sign or blackboard at the entrance.

4: Childrens entertainment

Its always nice to keep the children entertained. If you have more than 5 children its quite nice to incorporate an area for childrens entertainment or a separate table for them all to be together. Childrens entertainment includes, a colouring and arts craft area, Jumbo games like jenga, connect 4. Even face painting goes down a treat. If you do not have many children then some crafts or colouring books always works a treat. These can be given as favours.

5: Thank yous

Your guests have travelled far for your special day it is always nice to include a big thank you in the speeches and to also give thank you notes with a small favour to show your appreciation. Favours such as fans and paper umbrellas are also appreciated in the heat of the day.

6: Fun and frolics over decorations

Its always nice to have the alcohol free flowing. 9 times out of 10 guests would prefer a larger budget over booze than decor

7: Fun speeches

Don't make the speeches too long and make them fun don't bore them or ramble on. You can include games in the speeches or have fun games on the tables for adults.

8: Plentiful Feasting

Although your guests will be having a full 3 course meal which will keep the guests satisfied, but after lots of drinking, the heat and dancing guests will never be so thankful for some snacks or finger food which can be arranged for the evening.

9: Accommodation options

If your venue does not belong to a hotel it is a great idea to add a section to your website for various accommodation options for all budgets and contact details to arrange their accommodation and flight packages. Excursions and places to visit is also quite a good idea in this section

10: An easy Exit

Guests will want to know what time the day will finish so they can arrange taxis or transportation for the end of the evening in advance. You can opt to arrange transportation like a coach which can have a few drop of points or some taxis to be there at the end of the evening. if not you can include taxi services to your website if your venue is far away and in the middle of no where.

Wedding Trends For 2018

2018 is the year of modern, minimalist and metallic weddings. Foliage will be a huge part of décor, giving the modern weddings a whimsical twist. Whites, greys and soft metallic colour schemes are the perfect palette to complement the green foliage and natural make-up is definitely back for good!

The ideal trends of a wedding abroad… I've picked a few of my favourite trends below :

The metallics of the moment silver and chrome

Hanging flowers are the floral decor of the moment.

“Couples are keeping their guest tables simple and focusing more on ceiling treatments.” For an understated centre piece, one idea that  will be popular for 2018 wedding reception tables is a small cluster of vases with just one or two types of flowers.

Unique food is a priority.

“Something we have been hearing more and more from our couples is how important food is to them,” 2018 wedding trends are interactive appetizer stations, including roll your own sushi, cypriot style dishes “boreks”,  Doner for the end of the evening , and creative desserts.

Go all-out with the desserts.

Creative desserts,” “such as popsicles, custards and ice cream sandwiches”  or Turkish deserts are what couples are serving at the end of the night.

Nearly naked cakes

Goodbye naked cakes. The new trend in naked cakes is to have a thin scraping of buttercream on the outside, which keeps the cake from going dry while still letting the sponge poke through. Cake tables with smaller cakes in different flavours. Marbled cakes and metallic cakes will also be a big trend this year

The “woodsy” look, foliage & Bell jars

This includes a lot of greenery in the florals and green as the wedding’s main colour. “We’ll also move away from burlap and see more wooden details,”  which  can include the invitation, table numbers, seating cards, tags, chargers, signage, chairs and tables.”

Bouquets and decorations with plenty of beautiful leaves not only give your wedding a natural woodland look, but they’re also a lot easier on the budget!

Edison bulbs

Edison bulbs are hanging exposed bulbs with glowing filaments and look fantastic hung under beams or clustered together for an urban take on a chandelier.  Fairly lights are still going strong.

Step aside, light-up letters – the new trend is neon signs!  and you can even get your own custom signs made, which will make for a great keepsake after the big day.

Think geode wedding cakes, agate slice place names and quartz bridal accessories.  Just perfect

Mobile bars

From vintage camper vans to refurbished horse boxes, we’re seeing plenty of quirky options for mobile bars in 2018. Combine that with the recently popularity of prosecco, craft beers and gin bars at weddings, and you have yourself one hell of a party!

wildflower bouquets and natural arrangements continue to be popular for weddings, gardens looking arrangements with lavender and greenery.

Move over, peonies! The new hottest wedding flower in town is the delightful dahlia, which comes in a huge range of colours and is available from May to November, making it one of the most versatile wedding blooms around.

Table Wreaths

“To avoid the whole ‘I can’t see you across the table’ faux pas, brides are becoming more cautious about the height of the wedding centrepiece they choose, going for low and long rather than the more traditional tall arrangement. Table wreaths in soft, dusky shades to run the whole length of the tables are beautiful

Wedding Dress Trends:

I must say this years trends are just perfect for a summer beach wedding

Romantic Flowing bohemian style dresses

Separates mix and match tops

Pop of colour to your dress and floral details

Hair and make up

Natural dewy make up and maybe a pop of colour to the lips

Side partings and natural hair down styles

9 Reasons you should hire a wedding planner

If you think wedding planners are only a privilege the rich can afford, think again. Here's 9 reasons…

Reason #1. You deserve everything to be perfect on your big day.

It takes a lot of time and hard work to pull a wedding together perfectly. A wedding planner has organised a wedding a hundred times, and with practice comes perfection. They know the right people to talk to, how to get the best prices, what should (and shouldn’t) be in a contract, and how to ensure that every single detail is prepared for your big day

Reason #2. Your wedding planning experience should be enjoyable, not stressful.

Whether your engagement is long or short, you should enjoy every moment of that special time with your dream man. Most importantly, you do not want to turn into a neurotic Bridezilla who can’t sleep, can’t eat, can’t work and is constantly stressing about how much work there is to be done. Since it’s our job, a wedding planner has time and the skills to deal with everything on your behalf. All you have to worry about is taking care of yourself and enjoying your engagement period

Reason #3. You don’t want to spend hours finding suppliers and trying to figure out who is trustworthy.

It’s daunting to know how many suppliers are out there (and how many people it takes to make a wedding a success). Knowing who to trust and who is right for you is one of the hardest tasks of planning a wedding. Once you find a great wedding planner however, the rest is much easier. They can recommend suppliers they’ve worked with before and know how to get the best prices, and the best results, from them. “Even if we have to use a new supplier, we know how to find the best one for your style and price.”

Reason #4. You don’t want to worry about forgetting to plan or pay for something.

Wedding checklists can be pages long, so it’s no surprise if you’re worried about forgetting something. Luckily a planner knows what needs to be done like the back of their hand! They will keep track of all your deadlines and remind you when things need to be done and decided on. Nothing will ever be missed, and there’s no danger that something won’t turn up on the day because of poor preparation.

Reason #5. You both work and you don’t want wedding planning to take over your life.

Planning a wedding takes a lot of time, even more if you do everything yourself. Having a wedding planner is like having a personal assistant whose sole responsibility is doing all the running around for your wedding.

Reason #6. You have a great venue coordinator but they don’t take care about any of the other details.

You’ve already found your venue and you get on really well with the venue co-ordinator (the person who takes care of all the logistics of the venue and often is provided as part of your wedding package). She’s great and has got everything under control, she’s even given you a recommended list of suppliers that they work with. But keep in mind, that’s generally as far as her services extend. A wedding planner goes beyond these tasks and can help you manage your budget, mediate disputes with your family, tell you what flowers are in season on your wedding date, take you to meet the other suppliers, research prices, and anything else you wish.

Reason #7. You need help making your vision a reality.

No matter whether you know exactly what you want, have a vague idea, or no idea at all, a wedding planner can help you define the look, style, mood and emotions you want to create. They know the latest trends and are inspired daily by other brides, suppliers and the industry. They can visualise what will work in your venue and know how to bring your desired mood to life.

Reason #8.You’re struggling to meet the demands of your friends and family.

Does your family have a different idea of how your wedding should look? Many brides have to deal with a plethora of conflicting opinions from their friends and family about how the wedding should unfold, and it can be hard to please everyone. Not to mention stressful. A wedding planner will deal with your family’s expectations, show you the available options and can be relied upon to give you expert advice so you make an informed decision.

Reason #9. You’re planning a wedding somewhere other than where you live.

Planning a destination wedding has it’s pros, but it’s hard to organise suppliers that you’ve never met or imagine a space you’ve never seen in person. A wedding planner with experience in organising abroad weddings has a trick or two up their sleeve for getting the job done the way you want.

“The truth is, planning a wedding takes a lot of time, energy and focus,” says Costigan. “Sure, some bits of it are fun and exciting, but then there’s the endless research, details to remember, payments to make and so on which aren’t so much fun but are very necessary. Using one of our wedding planners means you’re in control. It’s definitely your day, your way, but you have a specialist working on your behalf to do the legwork, reduce your stress and ensure every detail is your kind of perfect.”

Testimonials :  Weddings in North Cyprus

We couldn't have done it without Jade. We decided to bring our wedding forward and we had 9 weeks to do it in.  I had been referred by a friend who suggested we spoke to Jade regarding a particular question we had and we decided to book her pretty much straight away.  Any question I had, she had an answer to, any time of the day which I especially didn't expect.  She took my ideas and offered me a variety of options to choose from. Jade also introduced us to the best photographer on the island. Thank you for everything you did for us.

Lucy & Stu,

Married at Bellapais Abbey, May 2015

We had our wedding at the Korenium Golf Resort in July 2015, and it was absolutely perfect and went off without a hitch all thanks to Jade.  As we are living in the UK, It was quite a daunting thought of planning a wedding abroad, but Jade was so helpful throughout the whole process.  She sourced everything we needed for the wedding which took a lot of the stress away especially as we don't speak Turkish. When we visited Jade prior to the wedding, she went through everything in great detail with us and showed us around the venue which completely put our minds at ease. Not only did Jade do so much organising up to the point of the wedding, she was also present on the wedding day, making sure that everything look beautiful and ran smoothly.

We would like to thank you, Jade, so much for all your hard work and effort you put in to making our day so special ...we will never forget it!  Rick and Clare xx

Every single flower you may need for your wedding

Before meeting your wedding florist it is a good idea to put together a list of wedding flowers you may need. This will also help you with your budget. When arranging a wedding abroad it works slightly differently as you will be sending your ideas to your wedding planner to research your ideas. This list will help you and your wedding planner get you the best package possible.

Firstly a checklist of flowers you may need

personal flowers:

Brides bouquet

Bridesmaids bouquets ( can be bouquets, corsages, bracelets or hair flowers depending on your budget)

buttonholes for groom and ushers/bestman

Buttonholes/corsages for close family members

 Thank you bouquets

Ceremony flowers:

Entry or welcome decoration and flowers

ceremony table

Aisle decoration

Reception Flowers:

centrepieces for tables and top table

Lounge area decor and surrounding areaS

Bar arrangements or flowers

Cake and guest book table flowers and decor

When arranging a wedding in North Cyprus you must remember that some decor and flowers will not suit the weather conditions for example very delicate flowers wilt from the heat and humidity if you are having a wedding between mid June-Sept.  Wedding flowers in North Cyprus need to be ordered at least 2 months before the wedding date as all flowers are imported from overseas, therefore some flowers may be more costly than in the uk.

When working with our brides we like to have photos, ideas and moodboards sent over so that we can get you quotes based on your ideas.  We will also advise you if needed and give our ideas to help with your theme and special day.

Heres a list of All year around flowers:

1: Gerbera

2: cherry brandy rose

3: alstroemeria

4: Eucalyptus

5: Veronica

6: Lisianthus

7: Ocean song rose

8: Spray rose

9: Gypsophilia

10: cool water rose

12: Spray chrysanthemum

14: hypericum berry

16: phlox

17: Carnation

Weddings and Love in North Cyprus

Weddings in North Cyprus at Kybele Bellapais

by Marion Stuart

They say when you marry in June, you're a bride, all your life, and the boy who marries a June bride, has a sweetheart for a wife."  This song from the film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is one with words that provide hope for a long and happy marriage .

Add to that the idea that Cyprus is the Island of Love which draws lovers to itself, and you have the perfect time and place for wedding.s Cyprus in June.

Several couples came to 'tie the knot' during the monthof June. Each of them different, with different stories as to how their love brought them to the point of pledging a lifelong commitment under the skies of the island of the Goddess of love.

Of the many, here are just two of those both taking place at the popular Kybele Restaurant, Bellapais. North Cyprus

The evening of the 7th June at the Kybele Restaurant (a favourite with many wedding couples) was one which smiled down on the wedding of Mentes Korucan and his bride Tanya from the Ukraine.  Earlier in the day, one bride had been bitterly disappointed as her outdoor wedding was well and truly rained 'off' and had to be brought inside. But the evening saw the clouds and rain disappear, and for Mentes and Tanya it was a perfect evening. Friends and family witnessed  a ceremony in which the couple exchanged vows. Tanya has limited English but was able to say a loud 'I do' .  Mentes who has spent time working in U.K, but who has had art exhibitions at Bellapais, had a dream that if he married it would be in that spot. Little did he realise that when he went to the Ukraine for a wedding that he would meet the girl of his dreams and be marrying her .  For many years Mentes had a mop of curly hair and created artistic works on canvas. Today he has lost the curls, and wrote a new episode on the canvas of his life on which is written the hope that all the dreams they share will become reality through the years as they continue to add colour and shape to the canvas of their joint lives.

Following the ceremony the guests enjoyed a splendid meal at Kybele Restaurant with a music duo creating background music and later music for dancing, as Mentes and Tanya started the late evening dancing.

When Adele Newby and Chris Kershaw began planning their wedding  nearly two years ago, they had a guest list which included Chris much loved father Stephen, and various grandparents and other relatives who meant much to the couple.  Sadly, when the day of their marriage dawned, (the 20th June) following a very sad period in their live,s all these beloved people, including the dog Holly, who had been the close companionof Stephen , had died.

The couple, who had met at university in 2004 fell in love almost form day one, and became inseparable following their first date to the Zoo.  They even spent seven months touring the world and in their own words ' this gave us priceless memories and an incredible experience'.  Priceless memories are important to Adele and Chris and they were determined that the loved ones who should have been  there, were there. And so each of the lost loved ones were there, without paying air fare and without taking up a chair, and they were there in the hearts, in the genes, and the pockets and handbags of family. This is probably a first for Cyprus and in fact for the world, that some of the ashes of the lost loved ones were taken to the wedding . A wonderful touch that had great meaning.

Stephen Kershaw had a property at Lapta which meant that the couple had come many times to Cyprus, and before he even proposed, Chris knew this was th e place for the wedding of his (and her) dreams.

The event was one full of love and support and some ninety nine guests witnessed the ceremonies when vows were exchanged and tears were shed , and thanks given for the main supporters of the day, Best men, Richard Kempson and Richard Kershaw, with bridesmaids Rebecca Newby, Isobel Newby, Lizzie Robinson, and Chloe Green.   Michelle and Tracey, the mothers of the couple both read moving pieces, with both declaring they hoped they would soon be grandmothers. The speeches which preceeded the bridal supper were full of humour and tales of the couple as children, some to the point of making them blush.   The couple from near Chester will be honeymooning later in the year in Singapore and Malaysia and promised on their return to try to make the future grandmothers happy.

Kybele under the guidance of wedding planner, Jade and Yonel Angelic Events, made the day perfect with their caring staff and well organised timetable.

Two pairs of sweethearts whose lives are part of North Cyprus and where Cyprus will continue to be part of their lives as Mentes a Turkish Cypriot pursues his career , and teaching his new wife English whilst tyring to learn Russian, and as Chris and Adele will return as they can to the home that Stephen has made a part of their lives.

Wedding dress advice for weddings in hot climates

So you have decided to marry in North Cyprus. Here are some do's and dont's advice before choosing your wedding dress

The dos…

Seek out lightweight fabrics such as tulle and chiffon. Chiffon is very flattering and cool, it won’t crease up after travelling and you can hang it in a steamy shower room and any small creases will fall out after just 20 minutes. Consider silk chiffon if you can afford it as it’s slightly more luxurious.

Consider a wedding dress with a low, sexy back, with strings of beads falling from shoulder to shoulder. This looks beautiful if you’ve managed to get a tan first and the guests will love looking at the back of your dress while you’re saying your vows.

Think about style details where the dress might have tulle or chiffon lengths of fabric that will catch the breeze. If your dress does have details like this, you may not need a traditional veil. Also look for pretty detailed necklines that will make up for the simplicity of the rest of the dress.

Always try to aim for a puddle train which literally means it sits behind your ankles like a puddle of fabric and doesn’t look too out of place on a beach or at a tropical resort.

The don’ts…

Avoid heavy, thick satins that will make you look and feel overdressed for the beach. Also, don’t buy a wedding dress with too many layers of petticoats, as they will stick to your legs in hot weather.

Steer clear of dresses with a heavy corset – they will make you sweat more and you’ll feel awkward and unable to breathe in high temperatures. Get the right underwear and you’ll have all the support you need.

Don’t use spray tan before you wear your dress as it could rub off onto the fabric and make it look dirty. Spend a few days sun bathing before the big day, and remember to use sun block. It’s better to look pale than sunburned.

With a wedding on the beach, you also have the opportunity to create a truly personalised venue with beautiful tropical flowers, music provided by one of the fantastic local bands or you could arrange for a DJ to play all of your favorite tunes. You can also enjoy a long stroll down the sandy beach when it's all over, and take time to soak up all of the wonderful moments that have just taken place.

Beach weddings also give you the opportunity to have your honeymoon in the same location as where you've just had your ceremony, which not only extends the special event but can also save on costs. Top tips for getting married abroad

Getting married abroad can be a great option to create a memorable event, experience something new, and most importantly it will be great fun for you and your guests. However, organising weddings abroad can be tricky, with costs, foreign laws and logistical issues to look out for, so you need to plan well. The following are some of the tips for successful weddings abroad:

Select your destination wisely

You need to ensure that your destination is friendly to all your guests. If possible, find a country that has sufficient sun during the appointed wedding time, but ensure that the climate is favorable to both the young and the elderly people. The weather situation of your preferred destination will also influence you choice of wedding dress, and you'll also need to guide your guests dress appropriately for your marriage and avoid any inconveniences.

The country should also have some wonderful wedding venues, whether at the beach, a famous restaurant, garden or a historic landmark that will make your wedding day truly remarkable.

You also want to make sure everyone is safe and free to enjoy the day, so ensure the destination is safe from any social problems like crime or natural disasters.

Select your guests carefully

Travel for overseas weddings can become costly, so you may need to cut on costs by reducing the number of people in your guest list. You may have to buy air tickets for your family members, and so you may need to reduce any avoidable costs by inviting only a few friends and members of the most immediate family. But remember, people understand how expensive these things can be, and this is YOUR big day so don't worry too much about what neighbours, distant relatives and co-workers might think.

Help your guests plan their journey

Remember that some people find traveling difficult and stressful - they might not be familiar with your wedding destination, or even the flight customs. Help them book their flights and arrange travel documents, and if possible let them fly as a group. Sending someone to receive them at the airport can be extremely welcome, so that they do not feel stranded when they arrive, and organise transfers to and from the wedding reception area.

Budget well

Overseas wedding insurance, photographers, videographer, wedding planners, venue fees, air ticket and airport transfers are just some of the costs involved in overseas weddings. You need to budget well so that you do not run out of cash in a foreign country.

Pull your resources together in advance, and set some money aside for emergencies. Planning, booking in advance and using someone with local knowledge is the key to successful overseas wedding, so seek advice from an experienced overseas wedding planner, who will be able to advise on all the costs involved.

Ensure that you meet all the legal requirements of your host country

Different countries have different marriage laws. Ensure that you meet the minimum age specified in the constitution of your host country, but you also need to meet all the customary requirements and obtain all the necessary licenses required during weddings. Some cultures have strict dressing rules, so make sure you observe these regulations too.

Expats in North Cyprus

Many British expats are now living in North Cyprus. The area offers an excellent lifestyle for British expats looking for a higher standard of living for a lower cost, either when they give up work and draw their pensions, or for young families.

For couples with young children the education system in North Cyprus is very good, with a range of English speaking nursery and primary schools.

People visiting the island quickly fall in love with the unspoilt beauty and slow pace of life - and the crime rate is almost non-existent. Although less commericalised than the south, there are still British pubs and sports bars, a buzzing nightlife in Kyrenia, and English is widely spoken. Expats living in North Cyprus will also find a vast array of clubs and societies dedicated to Brits.

The climate is warm and sunny even in January, there are English newspapers and the cars drive on the left - making it a home from home for British expats in North Cyprus without the rain!

Although the general cost of living has increased over the past few years as popularity has grown, whilst it remains out of the Euro Zone, it is still a very cheap place to live and property for sale in North Cyprus offers some of the best value in the Mediterranean. Alcohol and cigarettes in North Cyprus are exceptionally cheap and many people living in the south will cross the border to buy these. It is also easy for people living in the north to cross the border to the south, where there are a wider range of well known shops and department stores. (A passport is needed to cross).

However, although living costs are low, if you are planning to work in the country you should bear in mind that the average wage is also very low.

Sun and Heat Protection during an Outdoor Wedding

If you have decided to opt for an outdoor wedding under the North Cyprus sun, it is important to stop and consider all the aspects of an outdoor wedding? You and your guests might be outside for many hours throughout the day, and the last thing you want is for you or your guests to be burnt for pictures and leave the wedding early because they are sun-fried, so here are some sun protection tips to keep in mind whether you're the bride, groom or guest at an outdoor wedding:

1. Do not tan in a salon or outdoor prior to the wedding. Tanning of any sort is bad for your skin and can cause peeling right before the wedding.

2. If you want to get the outdoor tanned look, opt for self-tanning products that will give you the same effect without harming your skin. There are many lotions and foams that work wonders on the skin.

3. Make sure you apply sunscreen numerous times throughout the day. Encourage your guests to do so as well. Indicate on the invitation that the wedding is outdoors and remind them to bring sunscreen - or even hand out small decorative bottles of sunscreen as an early wedding favor for your guests.

4. Try and avoid the sun as much as possible between the hours of 10am and 4pm. The sun's rays are strongest at these times. Perhaps it's a good idea to get pictures closer to the morning or early afternoon,

before anyone is too tired (or burnt) from the sun.

5. Pack (and tell your guests to pack) cover-ups, shawls, wraps and hats for protection against the heat of the sun. Shawls are perfect for covering up your shoulders since they are a prime area for burns.

6. The wedding coordinator can help ensure there are tents and umbrellas for shade. This is very important because spending the entire day in the sun with no shade can cause heat exhaustion and be harmful to your health.

7. Finally, make sure there is plenty of water for you and your guests. There's nothing worse than being hot and thirsty. Lack of water can cause dehydration which can be very dangerous for you and your

guests. Have water coolers setup in different areas so they are easily accessible for everyone.

Keep in mind the precautions listed above. It will ensure that your wedding goes smoothly for you and your guests. After all, it is the most important day of your life and you don't want to take any chances of something ruining your special day!
